02 — What goes on your cabinets.
What goes on your cabinets and why it matters.
We use a 2-component (2K) polyurethane topcoat applied via HVLP spray — the same system used by factory cabinet manufacturers. Unlike single-component paints that dry by evaporation, 2K coatings cure through a chemical reaction, producing a film that's significantly harder, more water-resistant, and more durable.
We are EPA RRP Lead-Safe certified and use low-VOC coatings throughout. We also set up full containment and ventilation during in-unit application to manage odor and overspray. Most clients report their unit smells completely normal by evening on spray day.
Spray application produces a level, drip-free, factory-smooth film with zero brush marks or roller texture. Cabinet doors are removed from your unit, sprayed in a controlled environment, and re-hung after curing. This is how factories finish new cabinets — and it's why the result looks genuinely new rather than "painted."
Yes — every project follows a full prep sequence: sanding, degreasing, bonding primer, and at least two topcoats of 2K polyurethane. Skipping primer or cutting topcoat stages is the most common reason cheap refinishing jobs peel within a year. We don't skip steps.
03 — What project days look like.
What the workdays actually look like inside your home.
Most cabinet refinishing projects run 2–5 days from start to finish. Kitchen access is limited primarily on spray days (typically days 2–3 of the project), but the kitchen is fully functional again by day 4 or 5 at the latest. We'll give you a day-by-day project timeline before work begins.
Not entirely — and that's intentional. Cabinet doors and drawer fronts are removed and taken outside your unit (to a spray area in your building's designated space or our vehicle) for topcoat application. This keeps the vast majority of spray odor and overspray out of your living space.
In-unit work includes prep, sanding, priming, and painting the cabinet boxes (the frames that stay mounted). We fully mask and protect all surrounding surfaces before touching anything.
Our in-unit prep station fits comfortably in roughly a 6×8 ft area within the kitchen. We protect countertops, appliances, and flooring with drop cloths and paper masking before any work begins — nothing in your kitchen gets paint on it.
We keep in-unit work to normal business hours and schedule the noisiest prep work (sanding) for mid-day when most neighbors are out. Odor from in-unit box coating is brief and typically dissipates within a few hours with windows open.
For buildings with strict noise policies, we can provide a one-page project notice you can share with adjacent neighbors or your building manager in advance.

Yes — condo and apartment buildings make up the majority of our work across Greater Boston. We're familiar with freight elevator scheduling, certificate of insurance requirements, building-hours restrictions, and noise ordinances common to condo associations. We don't treat a condo job like a house job.
Absolutely. Before a project begins we can communicate with your building manager or HOA contact to confirm elevator reservations, waste disposal procedures, and any required unit-neighbor notices. We can provide a written project schedule and our insurance documentation directly to your building office.
Yes. We carry general liability insurance and can provide a COI naming your building or property management company as an additional insured upon request. Just let us know when you book.
No — cabinet refinishing is entirely surface work. We access only the inside of your unit and do not touch shared walls, structural elements, plumbing, or electrical systems. It's one of the reasons refinishing is approved far more easily by condo boards than full kitchen renovations.
We typically need the freight elevator for 30–60 minutes at project start (bringing equipment in) and again at close (removing equipment and door panels for spray). We're fully flexible to work within your building's elevator reservation windows — just let us know the available slots when you book.
